About IBP School of Special Education

Established in 1987, IBP School is a non-profit, tax exempted society, that caters for the educational, psychological, vocational and therapeutic needs of over 350 slow learners & mentally challenged individuals.

Our Team

Our team comprises of over 110 members with local and foreign qualifications. These include psychologists, educationists, mental health specialists, computer technologists, professional trainers, social workers, teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, special educators & professionals for learning disorders, doctors and nurses.

We build the foundation of all future learning by increasing attention span, cognition, concentration, dexterity, auditory & visual perception and discrimination & memory.

Our Focus

Our focus is to develop independent effective learning skills so that our children can undertake new learning experiences with confidence.

Our goal is to give every child the skills and self-confidence to take on any learning task or job. To achieve this goal, strengths and weaknesses are identified, enabling us to teach the child how to learn, and to apply the acquired knowledge to new and challenging situations.

Academic services enable the higher functioning students to achieve literacy in one language, and sufficient mathematical skills to handle their personal finances.

For the lower functioning students, the focus is to enable them to become socially independent, and to be able to look after their personal needs.

Mentally Handicapped Section

This section of the school caters to the needs of children who are diagnosed as being mentally handicapped as measured on an intelligence test.

IBP staff is specially trained to address the needs of children with various problems such as:

* Down's Syndrome.
* Autism
* Cerebral Palsy
* Brain damage due to illness or injury
* Attention Deficit Disorders
* Hyper Kinetic Syndrome
* Epilepsy or convulsive seizures

Academics:
As per the ability of the child, one language and basic mathematical skills are taught. Others work on the improvement of cognitive skills, fine motor development, gross motor skills, self help skills, personal and social skills, and language and communication.

Cognitive development:
The development of all types of mental activities, and functions, including perception, attention, memory, imagery developmental processes and problem solving.

Fine motor development:
The development of skills involving the use of hands and fingers, manipulating them in a controlled fashion and using both hands cooperatively.

Gross motor development:
The development of control over the larger muscles of the body, with special emphasis on developing muscle strength, energy, balance and poise.

Self help skills:
These include the skills necessary for independent functioning, such as feeding, bathroom training, washing and dressing.

Personal & Social skills:
Activities used to teach new skills and concepts that promote social behavior and interaction.

Language skills:
Development of the ability to understand and use words and sentences in meaningful communication.

Vocational

Vocational training is imparted to the students according to their ability and interest. The focus is on teaching a skill whereby the individual can earn a living and become economically self-sufficient. Special arrangements are made to find self-employment and in / out house employment. IBP is proud to employ most of the trained students in IBP’s catering department, as sports teachers’ aids and receptionists’ aids.

Extra curricular activities

Sports

Sports and physical activities are part of the school regimen. Each day starts with physical exercises. The school contains a tennis court, basketball court, jogging track and other facilities. Training for Special Olympics is provided. Tae Kwondo & skating are part of the currriculum.

Music & Dance

Most of the ‘Special Children’ have an inclination towards music. IBP is therefore training the students to play musical instruments like flute and drums and working towards forming its own school band. Synchrony is taught with music & movement.

Religious Education

Ba- Jamaat Namaaz-e-Zohar is offered by every child. The children do wozoo to offer their prayers on daily basis. Islamic way of life is practiced. Different Ayats are also taught.

Facilities

Lunch facilites
Being a full day school, a mid-morning snack with a glass of milk is served to the students. Beside this, a well-balanced meal consisting of main dish and sides are also served. Fruit is served everyday and dessert is served twice a month

Van facilities
Transport facility is available and provided to all parts of Karachi.
